The famous photograph called the “Blue Marble” was taken on December 7th, 1972 by the crew of Apollo 17. It was the first ever photo to capture the entire earth in one shot. Although we have seen many higher-resolution photos and videos of the entire earth from space since that photo, it is still awe-inspiring to view the “Blue Marble”. It captures our entire common home and all our loved ones, neighbors, and fellow humans in one shot.
Personally, viewing it helps draw me out of myself. It helps me remember that we are not just residents of our city, state or country but also of this planet. We are all invited into universal community and called to protect our shared home.
Take a moment to enjoy the photograph. What does it make you think about?
