Lynne and I use a Google chromecast and when not in use, it cycles through high-resolution images of beautiful landscapes, animals and cities. These images can spark you with inspiration and awe, especially in a year when most of us were stuck on our couch. However, these images sometimes suggest that I need to travel to faraway places to really experience God’s creation.
Yet, because of the inability to travel this year, we have been able to experience the beauty of landscapes near our home in Madison, WI. We’ve enjoyed hikes through forests and marshes, paddled on quiet lakes, and biked in the summer sunshine. All of those experiences helped us recognize and appreciate God’s creation in our own “backyard”. While I hope travelers are able to find wonder in God’s landscapes across the world sometime soon, let’s also appreciate and care for the beauty right near our homes.
